Introduction
The only reason I am posting this up is so that if we catch you in the act of disregarding any of them, we have a place to go to for evidence of where they're written. There will be no "magic password" in the try-outs or listed anywhere in here to prove you've read them, however ignorance of the rules will not be tolerated. We will be enforcing the same rules you see on every board, but the only difference is we actually follow through with them.
Mature Content & Cursing
First off, we are a mature board. We won't do a background check, but do expect that this site will contain material not suited for children under seventeen years of age. We aren't putting a limit on cursing, though we would prefer it not be like something out of a poorly made rapper movie. Sexual content is allowed, and it does not have to be marked specially, but is preferred to be if you know ahead of time what you're expecting out of the thread.
Posting Requirements
We are also a professional role playing site. The most important rule we have here is that posts be deep. I put that very vaguely because I have seen two paragraph posts that were easier to reply to than an eight paragraph one. I won't put a limit on how long posts are, but I will say if it's a regular complaint that your posts are too short (and we do hope for insight, seeing as we can't watch everyone), we will inform you that you're walking on thin ice. It isn't hard to write a lot, just describe and socialize.
Activity
We also expect good activity from anyone looking to apply. Just getting online and chatting in the c-box or general boards does not denote regular activity. At this time, we aren't putting up a minimum amount of posts weekly or anything, but we will if we see it fit to do so, in which case, we will make an announcement of rule changes and expect that everyone has checked.
Special Ability Claims
Any special ability requests (i.e. vampire, werewolf, occlumens, legilimens) must be taken up with either Crystal or myself. Due to the fact that we want this site to be as similar to the real Harry Potter world as possible, we will not allow a ton of people to be an Animagus. And also, no one will have option of being Parseltongue but none other than Harry Potter. Period.
Wannabe Canons
Again, we are keeping to the books, and so don't make an original only to claim it to be related to one of the canons. We don't want a Taylor Potter or Jenna Malfoy, and god forbid we get another Weasley without all the others running around. Just stay original if you create an original. Also, don't run around being a wannabe so-and-so. For example, just because your character has a different name than a canon, don't run around acting exactly like that canon. If you do, you will not only be spoken to, but we'll be sure and have a member call you out on it in a thread, and how humiliating would that be? We have that power, you know.
Electronic Devices
No electronic devices work inside of the castle. End of story. You can't sit in your dormitory listening to your iPod. Hell, you can't even use a book-light to read in the dark. If you make a post with anything electronic being used, you will be informed and forced to take it out the first time. Any time after that, we will delete the entire post and then let you know why via private message.
Unforgivable Curses
Unforgivable Curses are not to be used in any situation. They are forbidden, and besides, most of our students will still be learning things like Alohamora. Let's not push the intelligence of our ages.
Advanced God-modeing
Speaking of intelligence, no god-modeing. The worst role play is one in which you feel like the other person has complete control over everything. This isn't just in dueling and physically fighting and doing things, but also in spirit. Your character cannot be the best at anything. He or she can be good, but don't make your character all about being a celebrity. And by the way, no matter how perfect someone may appear to be, everyone makes mistakes.
Common Room Passwords
We use password boards to get into Houses. Knowing that some people will have more than one character in more than one House, do not try and pull a fast one by having your Hufflepuff enter the Slytherin Common Room. It is not allowed, and may result in banning of your account. Just stick to your own House, and we'll be alright.
Classes
We want professors to carry them out, but we no longer require them to do so. Teaching something that isn't real is difficult, and we know that. Just keep up with posting as a professor and we'll be happy. However, professors are not allowed to date students under any circumstances, no matter how young. Also, we require that you already have at least one active character on the site before allowing you to hold a professor, as professors have responsibilities as moderators on our board.
House Points
We're not so strict on carrying out the race for the House Cup. After all, what are we going to give the winning House? A cookie? We have a board for the points if we choose to, but it isn't quite decided that we'll be following through with them. House points are usually a reward for lengthy posts, and since it was previously established that you could be banned for short, incomplete posts, there's already a reason to keep posts nice.
Conclusion
I know that it sounds like a joke, but all of these policies will be taken seriously. Just because we want to make reading the rules (if you did) a little more enjoyable doesn't mean we don't mean it. Crystal and I are nice but we can also be incredibly heartless. After all, we are Slytherins.
